Our daily lives are more and more computerized with advance in networking and computers. It is increasing importance such as interfaces, sensors and robotics. These technologies connects the information-world and the real-world.

Our center of attention is "real-time simulation" technology. It allows computers to recognize, construct and reproduce the real world, which is always changing dynamically. With real-time simulation, input data from real world is computed with the laws of physics, psychology and physiology.

In our laboratory, we are studying interfaces, sensors and robotics with real-time simulation. Our goal is to solve probrems in the dynamic real-world with "dynamic information world". In this approach, we aims to increase people's happiness through the applications such as virtual reality, rescue, robot simulation, entertainments and arts.

Real-time Simulation  -- Simulation to "be felt"

Real time simulation is slightly different from common simulations.

Conventional simulations purposes to "know". It makes us to know changes in advance. Such simulations often take time, and we analyse the result after simulation. This is common for meteorology, stress analysis and fluid dynamics.

Real-time simulation, which we attention, purposes to "be felt". It allows us to construct the world same as the real world in the computer, so called "virtual reality". We must compute motions and reactions same as real ones in real time, due to express virtual objects as if it is real existences. This is enabled with real-time simulation. This is used for virtual reality, simulator training and video games.

It is an interface to make people to operate virtual objects with the sense like touching and gripping directly. We can touch virtual mechanism or virtual creatures with haptic intefaces. It is one of the interfaces that connect the information world with the real world. It is an interface to make it operate by the sense like gripping directly, and feeling after the object in the virtual reality world. It enables mechanism and Crecha made in the virtual reality world to be operated directly by the hand as well as the real world.
